The Collective Audio Unconscious

I was listening to NWA tonight and I was reminded of this totally awesome video that breaks down the, uh, break that forms the beat for “Straight Outta Compton” — as well as about 70 billion other songs. This is totally geeky, but it’s an unbelievably detailed deconstruction of the history and context of sampling and how it relates to the one drum break that has literally shaped modern music. Hip-hop and drum ‘n’ bass/jungle fans in particular really ought to listen to this mini-lecture at least once. Commence nerdery…now!
